"For a copy of the program Linton 1 or Linton 2, each of which in a different way attempts to replicate the behavior of genes in a population, they are present (along with some supporting material) in executable form on the CD which was distributed at the International Congress on Human Genetics in Brisbane, August of 2006. The programs are not represented as flawless, but are an honest attempt. Although easy for the operator, these are very demanding programs for a computer. During development, it appeared that some older computers overheated. The best new PC's seem to have no trouble, but it would be wise not to run them for extended periods unless precautions are taken. For a copy of the CD, send a check for $1,000 to Linton Herbert at Wild Surmise, Box 216, Largo, Florida 33779."

Woe is me.  The post office has taken box 215 away from me.  And I had the wrong address posted.  I said it was 216, and it wasn’t.   The price now seems rather exorbitant anyway.  I tried to keep the box.  In fact I had an account attached for the purpose of paying any postage due.  But I had not received any mail for years and did not visit often.  During a lapse, they took the box.  Also I have no source of the CD’s any longer, so I can’t really offer them for sale.  If you are interested, drop me a note at info@nobabies.net and I’ll see if I can send you one.  As long as my current supply is big enough I’ll not charge anything unless postage costs become an issue.  My current work is posted on nobabies.net.  That does not mean zero population growth.  It is concerned with fertility.
Sorry about my mix ups.  Best wishes.  Do visit my new site.

Wild Surmises Mission Statement

Wildsurmises.com is also known as Wildsunrise.com and was once WildSurmise.com.  It began is a newsletter called Wild Surmise.  The initial concern of the newsletter was the issue of the health of Vietnam Veterans.  Our position was that the effects of the war were still having an injurious influence on veterans years after the war was over.  At the time, strange as it may seem, the general belief was that once a veteran returned, it was as if nothing had happened to him.  Given that he had already been screened for serious disease and had medical care available, his life expectance was longer than that of his age mates who had never served.  After we had been publishing a couple of years, a study was done that vindicated us completely, and appropriate remedial step have been taken.  In fact someone has announced having found after careful study the same effect in Civil War veterans.

We did not close down Wild Surmise, but kept it alive for several years, and hope to revive it again.  We once had a web site, WildSurmise, but the contents somehow vanished from the internet, and we have only recently recovered some of what we had then and hope to add to it.

While we were down, the phenomenon of the “blog” or web log became popular.  A blog, we understand, tends to be a site that has frequent brief posting and invites dialogue.  While we applaud this, it is not our own relative strength.  What we can do best is to produce essays of several pages length about ideas that we think are new and not available from any other source.  We offer what supporting information we have, more in an effort to clarify what we mean than to try to prove it.  That is left for others, as in the study of veterans’ health done by the National Institute of Health in Atlanta, the one that proved us right and as we leave debate to traditional bloggers.

We think there is a place for a source of ideas only.  People have I ideas just as people listen to things and look at things and laugh at things, and music and graphics and humor are well developed fields.  Some of our ideas are deadly serious, some entirely frivolous and we are sure there are errors.  But for us it is the idea that counts.  Because the future in unpredictable, there is always information entering the universe, and this means that any set of ideas will ultimately fail to account for the evidence in hand.  There will always be a need for new ideas.

There is also some stuff that is just for fun.
